DCC HISTORY

Doncaster Cricket Club History

Our cricket club originated as the Doncaster Footballers Cricket Club, founded in 1949 by Pat Fromhold, George Knee, and Jack Carey. The club was formed for footballers that wanted a game of cricket with a club of their own. The club started remarkably with an outright win, which set the precedent for the rest of the season and years to come. Merely two years later, Doncaster won their first premiership in 1951, the first of many more achieved by the club.

The club, later renamed to Doncaster Cricket Club, has had a proud history competing in the Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association for 70 years. In that time Doncaster has won a total of 16 premierships, 19 runners up and One tie. Our most recent premiership win was in 2016-2017 by the Second XI at the time.

In addition to the Doncasters ’never say die’ competitive reputation on the field, the club has always had a great social life. Enhanced by the many great characters involved with the club, the regular social events held have always encouraged and ensured a great time, which attracts new social and playing members along and aids in raising vital funds for the club.

The Doncaster Cricket Club field senior, veteran and junior sides. The veteran sides signify the many great, proud, and committed players that have represented the club in the past who are eager to continue to contribute to our proud club.

On the eve of the 2012-2013 season the Elgar Park Cricket Club aprroached us in relation to coming and joining us to which we agreed on the basis that we would adopt their nickname of the Saints and that we would also recognise all parts of their club history as just a couple of basic points. to date i believe the move has been conducted as smoothly as could be done and that both parties have been satisfied to date.

Our clubrooms and main ground are located at Doncaster Recreational Reserve, 918 Doncaster Road, Doncaster East. regarded by many as one of the best grounds in the competition to play cricket. The clubs second ground, Boronia Grove Reserve at the Bottom of Leeds Street, Doncaster East. It’s not too hard to watch the action provided by the many players at both venues and easy yo catch up with the many supporters of Doncaster Cricket Club.
